International Material Data System
What is IMDS?
The International Material Data System (IMDS) is a web-based electronic system, which was launched by leading OEMs from the automobile sector to register all parts and accessories which are used for the manufacturing of vehicles. The original system was developed jointly by Audi, BMW, Daimler, Chrysler, Ford, Opel, Porsche, Volkswagen and Volvo.
Why has this system been developed?
With the IMDS you have an entire system for archiving and maintaining the data of all materials used in vehicles, in one database. This system assures, that OEMs and their suppliers act regarding the international and national standards, laws and directives. In the future, the database could facilitate the recycling of end-of-life-vehicles.
Membership
Since its foundation, further manufacturers have joined the group. The community now additionally includes Fiat, Fuji Heavy Industries, General Motors, Hyundai, Isuzu, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Nissan Diesel, Suzuki as well as Toyota.
Data-Responsibility
The Tier 1 suppliers are responsible for placing the necessary information into the database. Indeed, the responsibility for the data administration is often transmitted to sub-suppliers as e. g. SurTec. Each supplier has to be registrated before entering the system.
SurTec Product-Codes

Following, you will see the listing of product-codes, which apply for SurTec processes. If you have any questions concerning SurTec-Products, please contact Dr. Peter Hülser.

SurTec 551
Liquid sealer for thick- and thinlayer passivation. Is given directly into the chromating bath and evenly builds in the passivation layer.
974606
SurTec 555 S
Temper resistant chromium free sealer for chromated zinc surfaces and to protect uncoated or blackened metal; guarantees to meet the VOLVO standard. Improves protection by 100–200 h neutral salt spray with respect to chromate treatment.
974826
SurTec 555
Temper resistant chromium free sealer for chromated zinc surfaces and to protect uncoated or blackened metal; guarantees to meet the VOLVO standard.
977617
SurTec 556
Silicate Sealer, builds up an evenly and transparent film on zinc plated and passivated surfaces.
974606
SurTec 556 GL
Silicate Sealer with Glide Wax, forms a uniform, colourless and bright film, gives a uniform appearance and covers the iridescence of the passivation layers.
975042
Sealer with Glide Wax, forms a uniform, colourless and bright film after drying, the coating is not sticky and is dry to the touch, reduces the coefficient of friction to 0.13, improves the corrosion protection and the heat resistance, gives a uniform appearance and covers the iridescence of the passivation layers.
974826
SurTec 615
Manganese phosphating for iron and steel, concentrated liquid additive, produces a dark grey/black phosphating layer. Good protection against corrosion in combination with suitable post-treatments, decorative layer with a better corrosion resistance as a blackening layer, very good friction properties for lowering abraison at machine parts, excellent basis layer for following coating and oiling, easy process handling.
9502076
SurTec 650
chromitAL TCP® is a passivation for aluminium based on trivalent chromium. On the surface of alloyed, casted and wrought aluminium parts, an iridescent, faintly blue to tan visible passivation layer with excellent corrosion protection is formed. Increases the corrosion protection of trivalent passivations such as Chromiting® SurTec 680.
30429267
SurTec 660
Trivalent blue passivation without hexavalent chromium or oxidizing agents, exceeds corrosion protection standards (neutral salt spray), produces coatings with a clear blue colour, the passivation layer is easily inkable with organic dyes, long service life, can be determined analytically and adjusted.
3641289
SurTec 662
Trivalent, temper resistant blue passivation without any sediment; corrosion resistant coatings of intense blue colour. Long lifetime, especially with inhibitor SurTec 660 A.
900924
SurTec 664
Liquid trivalent blue passivation, without traces of hexavalent chromium or oxidizing agents, contains cobalt to improve the corrosion resistance, exceeds by far the corrosion protection standards (neutral salt spray), produces coatings with a clear blue colour.
900924
SurTec 666
Liquid trivalent, fluoride-free heat resistant blue passivation without sediment. Long service life, especially with the inhibitor SurTec 660 A.
900924
SurTec 667
Liquid, high performance blue passivation without sediment, free of chromium(VI) and oxidising agents, surpasses significantly the corrosion protection standards for blue passivated parts also in barrel application, produces coatings with an intensive blue colour even at short immersion times, long service-life.
900924
