SurTec proves “green“ innovation ability in passive house as well as in chemical products.
The Sun EcoTour 2007 is an initiative of Sun Microsystems with support from AMD and SurTec. It is all about the saving of electricity and the usage of
innovative energy technologies.
On August 9th, the Sun EcoTour 2007 visited SurTec Deutschland GmbH in Zwingenberg.
Green technology “made in Germany” is bringing Germany back to the top. One example is SurTec, Europes first chemical company with headquarters in a passive house building.
“I am happy about the visit of the Sun EcoTour 2007”, Patricia Preikschat, CEO of SurTec Deutschland GmbH, explains. “For considerable time we got involved with the efficient usage of our resources. We like to exchange experiences with other companies, which take their enviromental
responsibility as serious, as we do”.
SurTec GmbH has built the first company building as passive house in Europe.
The nearly hermetic isolated building is devided in three units, which shelter different utilizations: administration, development, production and stock. The building is heated through an airing only. The special demands of the chemical production were a challenge for the planning. Beside the energetic aspect to minimize the loss of warmness, the legal claims to the air quality in workspaces had to be considered.
In 2005, Sun provoked with the assumption, the fact, that a data processing chenter averages the consumption of two tons of coal per hour, has to be changed. As a solution, the Sun UltraSPARC T1 processor was introduced, the worldwide only chip, which can work out 32 tasks at one time while consuming less than 70 watt. If all web server in the world would be build on the base of the Sun UltraSPARC T1, the internet economy would save energy costs of 14 billion dollars.
The Sun EcoTour is a journey through Germany in summer 2007 with the
Sun Ecorider. The Tour visits and points out projects, which – like Sun – uses electricity and energy exemplarly economical.
Together with the responsibles of the stage destinations, Sun wants to
sensitize the deciders in german industry for these objectives.
The Ecorider is a hybrid chaise longue bike, driven by Martin Müller, a young journalist. Müller writes about his experiences in the weblog www.im-strom-der-zeit.de. The Sun EcoTour covers nearly 1500 kilometers in 85 days and visits nine main destinations.
On August, 9th, the Ecorider reached SurTec Deutschland GmbH and was welcomed by the whole crew.
