Bensheim, September 18, 2026 – Wind energy systems must function flawlessly over long periods under all weather conditions, whether onshore or offshore. This places high demands on both external and internal component surfaces. At WindEnergy Hamburg, SurTec demonstrates its portfolio of chemical specialities to address these challenges. The main focus will be on Anti-Friction Coatings delivering dry lubrication, complemented by solutions for high-level corrosion protection and effective parts cleaning as well as precote® coatings for locking and sealing of threaded parts.
“Our strengths lie in our broad surface treatment expertise and global presence,” explains Christian Gundlach, Global Business Development Manager at SurTec. “With our local teams, we are always close to our customers and deliver customized surface treatment solutions throughout the entire value chain of their products.”
Anti-Friction Coatings - One Coating, Multiple Benefits
Wherever components move, slide, or are assembled under pressure, friction becomes a challenge. SurTec’s Anti-Friction Coatings offer a smart solution: dry lubricating layers that primarily reduce friction permanently, but are also capable of providing protection against corrosion. Depending on the specific application, these coatings help to reduce assembly forces, improve wear resistance, prevent galling and minimize stick-slip effects. As the demand for PFAS-free Anti-Friction Coatings continues to grow, SurTec offers a broad portfolio of PFAS-free products that combine reliable performance with regulatory readiness. In plain bearings, Anti-Friction Coatings ensure the presence of a lubricating film when oil lubrication cannot be provided, such as during start-stop cycles, in emergency operation, or even during the transport and installation of the wind turbine. Threaded connections benefit from a defined coefficient of friction even after multiple tightening cycles. In fact, SurTec’s Anti-Friction Coatings facilitate assembly and contribute to smoother operation over the entire lifetime of a component.
precote® – Locking & Sealing for Fasteners
Threaded parts require more than the right coefficient of friction. Being a proven technology in the automotive industry, precote® coatings offer interesting potential for threaded applications in the wind energy sector. Microencapsulated, modified acrylates in combination with specific precote® binders can reliably lock, seal, clamp, assemble and disassemble threaded parts, helping to increase operational safety and reduce maintenance requirements. PFAS-free precote® solutions with equivalent performance are available, helping customers meet regulatory requirements. Furthermore, precote® coatings can be combined with a wide range of electroplated surface finishes.
Corrosion Protection and Technical Cleanliness
For demanding offshore environments, SurTec’s zinc and zinc alloy processes provide a high level of corrosion protection for steel components and bolts. To meet the specific operating requirements of a wide range of parts in e.g. hydraulic system, drivetrain and orientation control, the plated surfaces can be further customized by SurTec’s passivations and top coats. Sufficiently clean surfaces lay the foundation for the optimal performance of coatings, but also create value on their own by being crucial for flawless assembly and long-term operation of e.g. gearboxes. SurTec offers aqueous cleaning processes that meet these technical cleanliness requirements whenever they are needed in the component’s lifecycle.
At WindEnergy Hamburg from 22 to 25 September 2026, SurTec experts will join Freudenberg Sealing Technologies, Freudenberg Performance Materials, Freudenberg Flow Technologies in Hall 6, Booth 449, where they will be available to discuss specific applications and requirements.
